Dental Bridges in Albuquerque

What are Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges are a popular and effective solution for individuals who have missing teeth. These custom-made replacements fill the gap where a tooth or teeth are absent, restoring functionality and aesthetics to your smile. Dental bridges in Albuquerque, as the name suggests, bridge the gap created by one or more missing teeth. They are made up of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap (these two or more anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth) and a false tooth/teeth in between. These false teeth are called pontics and can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials. Contact your Albuquerque dentist today!

The Dental Bridges Treatment Process

Initial Consultation

During your initial consultation, Dr. Becky Chiem at Coronado Family Dental will assess your oral health to determine if a dental bridge is the right restorative dentistry treatment for you. This involves a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, and jawbone. If a dental bridge is deemed suitable, impressions of your teeth will be taken to create a perfect fitting bridge.

Preparation and Temporary Bridge Placement

The next step involves preparing the abutment teeth for the bridge. This process involves recontouring these teeth by removing a portion of enamel to allow room for a crown to be placed over them. Next, impressions of the teeth are made, which serve as a model from which the bridge, pontic, and crowns will be made by a dental lab. Your dentist will make a temporary bridge to wear to protect the exposed teeth and gums while the bridge is being made.

Permanent Bridge Placement

Once your custom-made bridge is ready, the temporary bridge is removed, and the new bridge is checked and adjusted to achieve a proper fit. Multiple visits may be necessary to check the fit of the metal framework and bite. This is dependent on each individual's case. Once the dental bridge is cemented into place, it will look and function like natural teeth.

Restores Functionality and Aesthetics

Dental bridges not only restore the functionality of your teeth, allowing you to eat and speak normally, but they also restore the aesthetics of your smile. They are designed to look like your natural teeth, so no one will even know you’re wearing a bridge.

Maintains Facial Shape

Missing teeth can cause your face to change shape over time, but dental bridges help maintain the structure of your face. They provide support for your cheeks and lips, preventing them from sinking inward.

Prevents Teeth Shifting

When there’s a gap in your teeth, the remaining teeth can shift out of place and lead to a variety of dental issues. Dental bridges fill the gap and keep your other teeth in their proper position.

Dental bridges can help improve your pronunciation of certain words that can be harder to say when missing teeth.
